Ambassador’s Reception
Monday night the U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic hosted our group at his residence. After classes, we went back to the dorm, dressed up, and walked to his residence. Arriving at the residence I was impressed by the large and elegant property. The house is beautiful, and the back terrace and lawn look like a set for a Hollywood wedding. I think I could get into being an ambassador in a stable Central or Eastern European country (somewhere with lots of nice old architecture).
We all filed through the ambassador’s residence to a receiving line in the main hall where we shook hands with the ambassador and Roger Ream, the president of TFAS. The embassy had drinks and light refreshments for us on the back terrace. Several people gave brief speeches.
The ambassador had another engagement and had to leave early, but our group stayed for almost two hours socializing and taking pictures. There were several benefits of being back on American territory: smoking wasn’t allowed and ice was available for our drinks.

Michael, you do the coolest stuff…first your cool Georgetown summer, now Prague. Wow. And I’m in North Carolina. Well, North Carolina’s kinda nice…yeah.

Glad to see you’re really suffering;) It’s beautiful! Did he have any nice art?

They have some sort of art-for-embassies program, so the main hall had quite a few big pieces by living artists. Some of it was decent, some seemed like a waste of space. A lot of the art would have worked better in a more modern building, I thought.
