After our Friday afternoon activities wrapped up we had the night free. The students who didn’t have to leave town went out for supper. After being turned away by several classier restaurants because we didn’t have reservations, we settled down in one of my favorite Washington eateries, Five Guys Burgers.
Five Guys is nothing fancy. The menu is simple and the restaurants are minimally decorated. They have distinctive red and white tiles adorned with dozens of magazine and newspaper articles about the chain. Five Guys is famous for tasty and inexpensive burgers. Customers can order all sorts of toppings, from traditional condiments to fried onions and sauteed mushrooms, all at no extra cost.
Five guys has been ranked the number one burger in the District by Washingtonian Magazine for five years running. Five guys is beginning to expand out of the Washington area. To my pleasure I just discovered that Five Guys is opening its first restaurant in SC at Haywood Mall in Greenville.
After eating, my group walked around DC for while and then stopped in a Barnes and Noble for coffee. Being in a smaller group has been fun and has allowed us to get to know each other better.
